WORDS FROM THE PRESIDENT
The history of an institution is not built overnight, it is a constant in actions, it is persistence over time, contributing not only to those who belong to it, but also to the society in which it develops and we, Ramón Mesa and the writer, creators of the Aníbal Montaño Literary Foundation (FLAM), we are proud not only of bearing the name of one of the best poets of our generation with such dignity, but also of the achievements achieved during more than 20 years of activism and cultural management.
As a non-profit institution, conceived for creativity...
About us?
The Aníbal Montaño Literary Foundation (FLAM) is a private, non-profit institution created in the city of San Cristóbal, Dominican Republic, by writers and cultural managers Ysabel Florentino and Ramón Mesa.
Our services are to the creation of creative reading and writing habits through literary workshops. Our actions are aimed at youth and children in neighborhoods and communities traditionally excluded; towards the development of the leadership of the children and young people that make up these communities, and towards the strengthening and rescue of historical and cultural values.
"Without reading there is no education" is the motto that identifies our fundamental concern for the development and learning of Dominican children and youth. Given the lack of insertion of reading habits as an effective method for literacy and understanding of the world around them. We have achieved satisfactory results in improving the social and human condition of young people impacted by our literary workshops. Taking great pride in the national and international recognition of these workshop participants as outstanding writers from the Dominican Republic.
A bit of our history...
We founded our first literary workshop under the name of Artistic Projection 2000 in 1997, the which would later become Yelidá Literary Circle . In 2004, the Provincial Network of Literary Workshops of San Cristóbal emerged, formed by a set of workshops established in different communities of our province. In 2008, we started the first children's literary workshop of the “ Mi Barrio en Letras ” project. A project with unprecedented experience in the country. We converted the name of our work as instructors into a tribute to the memory of the untimely departure of our poet Aníbal Montaño , one of the talented young founders of Projection Artística 2000. In that same year we legally constituted ourselves as Fundación Literaria Aníbal Montaño (FLAM ) through Resolution No. 011ONG-08.
Starting in 2009, we created a series of projects aimed at the expression and composition of literary works inspired by the socio-cultural reality of the Dominican Republic. Including the presentation of events where the talent of our children and young writers is distinguished. What motivates us to proudly celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Aníbal Montaño Literary Foundation, next year 2022.
